Biofuling envelope

Development of an alternative process to bioluminescent paints

Any structure in a marine environment is quickly colonised by micro and macro-organisms. The formation of this film can lead to loss of speed and excess petrol consumption. To limit this fouling, antifouling paints are used which contain biocidal agents based on copper salts.

Careening, which consists of taking the boat out, cleaning the hull and repainting, is a particularly polluting operation. As fouling occurs mainly in port areas, the idea is to envelop the hull in a polymer envelope that leads to the destruction of living organisms and to identify the impact of this confinement. This is the objective of the collaboration between Nautic Innovation and LaSIE, with laboratory tests and measurements in the Port des Minimes.
